President Buhari has appointed Ahmed Abubakar as the substantive Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, made the disclosure on Wednesday in a statement signed by him.

According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect.

Abubakar, was before his appointment as the new NIA DG, the Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

Abubakar holds a B.A degree in French Language and Literature, and an M.A degree in Francophone Maghrebian Literature, both from Bayero University, Kano. He is a retired career Foreign Service officer. Before his appointment as SSA to the President on Foreign Affairs/International Relations, Abubakar was once the Senior Adviser at the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), with headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad.

The statement of his appointment  said Abubakar has also garnered much experience haven worked with the United Nations in peace keeping operations, as well as in the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.
