WRIGHT HASSALL RUN RAISES £30,000 FOR CHARITY
This month’s Wright Hassall Regency Run in Leamington has already raised £30,000 for local charities.
The event, which is open to serious athletes and fun runners, takes place on Sunday, April 11 and a record breaking 2,300 people have signed-up – and only a handful of places are remaining.
The run, organised by Leamington Round Table, goes over Newbold Comyn and through the streets of Leamington before finishing in Mill Gardens.
This year, 2,000 runners were expected to participate but that was extended to a maximum of 2,350 due to demand.
All entry fees go into a charity fund for local causes and this year’s £30,000 will mean the total raised since the first run in 2004 will surpass £150,000.
Russell Hall, who manages the run, said the response from the public had been superb.
“Every year we seem to surprise ourselves but the 2010 run has attracted a lot of interest from across the UK,” Mr Hall said.
“We’ve had the Daily Telegraph name us second place in the ‘top ten 10k’ runs and Runner’s World also listed us in its top 50 British races, it’s fantastic that the event is held in such esteem.
“Obviously the fundraising has been an important part of the event and we’re delighted to have such a large sum to distribute to causes across Warwickshire again.
“We’re very excited about the run because it will be our biggest yet, and we are sure everyone taking part will have a great day.”
