Press Release: Travel group gets a taste of Llanberis |
|
A major travel organisation has visited Llanberis to get a flavour for what the region has to offer.
The Western branch of the Group Travel Organisers Association (GTOA) spent a weekend at theLegacyRoyalVictoriaHotelas they held their general meeting while also taking the opportunity to explore the area’s attractions.
The GTOA is an independent organisation that represents organisers of group travel and Gill Brooker, chair of the Western branch – which has around 80 members – helped to set-up the event which saw 30 representatives from around 15 travel groups descend onNorth Wales.
Gill said: “The Western branch of the GTOA stretches from Hampshire toCornwall, incorporatingSouth Walesand Gloucestershire, so we cover quite a large area.
“We hold three of these branch meetings each year as well as one national AGM every January.
“We try and combine each of them with a familiarisation visit so we can have a brief look around an area to find out whether it is suitable for certain travel groups and whether they would like to come back and see the rest.
“We spent three days in Llanberis during which we took part in a familiarisation package prepared by the hotel.
“This involved afternoon tea on arrival, a performance from a Welsh voice choir in the evening, a vintage coach trip to Caernarfon Castle and a tour of the area with a stop at Beddgelert, a journey up Mount Snowdon and a ride on the Llanberis Lake Railway. Some of the group also visited theLlanberisSlateMuseum.
“It was a really good weekend and there is certainly plenty to see.”
Ann Owen, revenue manager at theLegacyRoyalVictoriaHotel, co-ordinates group bookings for all Legacy properties and she believes events such as this are important for the local business community.
She said: “It was really good to host the GTOA Western branch’s general meeting, not only because it gives us an opportunity to show them what the hotel has to offer but the region as a whole.
“We had to make sure that this event was planned carefully so that we could ensure the members got to see as much of what the region has to offer as possible.
“It all went well and hopefully it will lead to more people visiting various attractions across the area, bringing in new business.”
