Press Release: Tovey takes top position at Cre8us |
|
An organisation which is playing a major role in boosting the creative and cultural learning experiences of young people across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire has appointed a new high profile chairman. Professor Michael Tovey, responsible for leading and co-ordinating design education and applied research at Coventry University, has been appointed to the board of Cre8us. Professor Tovey has developed an international reputation for his research into design and this expertise and his recent research on its role in improving teaching and learning makes him ideal for the position according to Cre8us director Jo Trowsdale. “I am excited by the potential of this role,” Professor Tovey said. “Cre8us is achieving a great deal, supporting our teachers as they evolve their approach and helping to reinvigorate the learning experiences of our young people and this is ultimately making a major contribution to the cultural regeneration of Coventry and the wider sub-region.”Professor Tovey takes over from former Cre8us chairman Dr Michael Goldstein.Jo added: “I would like to thank Michael Goldstein for his contribution as chair. He has guided our organisation through its early stages, helped us build partnerships in the city and develop the effective programmes we now have in place. “Looking ahead, I believe Michael will make an invaluable contribution, bringing insights gained both through his commitment to this field, this sub-region, his design expertise and the research he has undertaken into the most effective methods for teaching and learning.”Cre8us works in partnership with organisations whose main concern is young people, including primary and secondary schools, early years children’s centres and extended learning centres, to provide three programmes – creative change, workforce development and sustaining creative futures. Within creative change, Cre8us works with local authorities and schools to support the implementation of new creative teaching and development programmes and as part of Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership (CSWP), Cre8us delivers the Government’s Creative Partnership programme which has been proven to have a direct impact on GCSE and SATS results as well as pupil behaviour. The importance of work carried out by Creative Partnership organisations has been recognised by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) whose figures show that schools which work with organisations such as Cre8us improve exam results faster.Seven out of 10 secondary head teachers say creative partnerships improve pupil behaviour and 80 per cent of secondary schools working with Cre8us have experienced an improvement in pupils’ enjoyment of school. For more information about Cre8us and its creative learning programmes visit www.cre8us.org.uk or call 02476 70 7665..
