Press Release: Teacher’s PET is top of the class

A Coventry-based training organisation reached an historic milestone when students gave their studies full attention during half-term.
Progressive Educational Tools (PET), based at Mercia Business Village, manage intensive intervention courses which teach students important life skills while offering them the opportunity to gain GCSE equivalents.
And PET awarded its 7,000th GCSE equivalent in just two years when students from Abbeydale Grange School in Sheffield successfully completed their level two Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE), earning one grade B GCSE equivalent each in return.
Fleur Sexton, joint managing director of PET, said: “The great results we have had from this school are typical of the work our team do on a national scale, for a variety of qualifications.
“Some of the students found aspects of the course difficult to begin with but we have a great team, capable of working with a range of people with different levels of ability and understanding.
“From the school’s point of view, they only have to pay for students who are successful so I feel this encourages them to let us come in and help the kids because in the current climate of budget cuts you rarely come across ‘win, win’ situations.
“We are delighted to reach such a magnificent milestone and to have helped so many youngsters. It is a great feeling.”
Qaisar Mahmood, school leader at the Hastings Road school, was delighted with the service PET provided and the enthusiasm it brought out of his students.
He said: “It is fantastic that they all gave up their half-term to take part in this course. This represents 65 per cent of our Year 11 students.
“Many of our students come from areas of deprivation, where traditionally attainment is poor, but our students understand the importance of education and are very determined and motivated by that.
“Every single pupil in Year 11 will now take part in the Wider Key Skills course which PET is running here in December.”
The Wider Key Skills course offers students the opportunity to gain a further two grade B GCSE equivalents while learning presentation, interview and career path finding skills.
PET was established in 1995 and focuses on increasing students’ motivation to learn by creating unique and innovative ways of making the process fun and in turn improving their prospects.
PET also produce training and online products that are used by educational institutions all over the world.
