Press Release: Sutton Chamber Hosts One Planet Business |

Innovation is the mother of invention and at the Sutton Chamber sponsored workshop proved that there is much innovation in the energy conservation specifically designed with businesses in mind. One Planet Business brought together businesses who supplied products or services that helped to reduce the car-bon footprint. Paul Cawthorne, vice-chairman of The Sutton Chamber of Commerce, on welcoming the participants, commented that he believed that Sutton Chamber of Commerce, on welcoming the participants, commented that he believed that Sutton Chamber was again leading by this time being the first to business membership organisation to contribute to the Prime Minister’s “Big Society” challenge. The planet’s oil reserves are depleted daily so businesses, one of the heavy users of energy need to reduce and recycle to save the planet. Presentations came from CREED Energy who introduced LED energy bulbs which can reduce a company’s energy bill by as much as 70% - 95%; from Current Flow Energy Solutions LTD who are developing a river placed turbines and Llumar Ener-Logic who install a reflective film on windows to redirect energy to retain heat in the winter and reduce the use of or the need for air conditioning during the warmer summer months. Go Green Plus has been working with businesses in the London boroughs to help identify various areas where they can make savings, and after a three year contract with the LDA as GO Green, the project has been extended for another three years. Sutton Council’s contribution to the event showed how it has been monitoring the borough’s waste production and recycling efforts and at present the borough needs to reduce its waste by at least 50%. Meanwhile, Bio Regional advised that they have introduced a scheme where vegetables are produced and sourced locally and sold back to residents via two outlets. Sutton Chamber of Commerce hopes that participants at this event will contribute practical energy tips. Over 50 businesses attended this event and the Chamber intends to produce a green directory of business suppliers of eco-products.
