Press Release: Successful business courses

Over 15 women braved the really bad weather to take the first steps towards setting up their own business after attending New Year courses in Coventry.

The Women’s Business Development Agency (WBDA) held free drop-in sessions in Willenhall, Foleshill and Hillfields with the theme 2010 New Year, New You.

The sessions were all run by WBDA Enterprise Coaches, based at Coventry University Technology Park in Puma Way.

Michelle Grindley, WBDA Enterprise Mentor, said for many women this was an opportunity to gain the necessary information to move forward and achieve their dream of running their own business.

“We talked to many women, three quarters of whom were unemployed, but had great ideas for a business but were not sure how to take it forward or what to do next,” she said.

“We suggested attending our workshops or business advice sessions that we hold all over Coventry and which are completely free. We can then organise one-to-one sessions with our female Enterprise Coaches to help write a business plan and take all the other necessary steps, which is particularly helpful when moving from benefits into self employment.

“Setting up a business can seem extremely complicated when you take into account finding premises, suppliers and looking after the accounts but we are here to help every step of the way.

“Some women sometimes think their idea is silly or that it wouldn’t be successful as a commercial venture but they may in fact have a wonderful idea that no-one has thought of!

“Encouragement, as well as expert advice and practical support, is often the necessary spur to transform an idea and make it a reality.”
