Press Release: Soldiers to be Sky Blues’ special guests for Newcastle United visit |
|
Soldiers supporting Coventry City and Newcastle United have been invited to the Championship match between the two clubs at the Ricoh Arena next month. The Sky Blues and Magpies fans who serve alongside each other in their local regiment, the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, will be Coventry City’s special guests at the fixture on Wednesday, December 9 (7.45pm). Coventry City has given tickets to about 100 soldiers who support the two teams to come along and cheer on their clubs. The soldiers last visited Coventry in April when thousands of people lined the streets to welcome them home from Iraq. Nathan Kosky, commercial director at Coventry City, said this was an ideal way for the clubs and supporters of both teams to show their gratitude to The Fusiliers for their work. “There will be a guard of honour as the teams walk on to the pitch before the match which is expected to attract one of the largest crowds of the season to the Ricoh Arena,” he said. “The soldiers carry out their duties in often hazardous conditions while serving their country and this is a chance to show our appreciation of their work. “We will be repeating this in the New Year with the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and we are planning some special events around this. “The Newcastle match will be one of the Sky Blues’ most high profile games of the season with the Magpies’ selling out many of their away fixtures with their loyal following. “Chris Hughton’s team have started the season in fine style and our team will really appreciate the backing of the Sky Blues’ supporters for this game. I am sure both sets of fans will make it a cracking atmosphere. “Tickets are expected to be in high demand and I would advise people to buy early to secure the best seats and prices.” Adult ticket prices start at £19, concessions at £10 and JSBs at £6 at the pre-matchday price with special family tickets also available. Tickets are now on sale from the club’s shop at the Ricoh Arena, the Coventry Cathedral office and the new City Central store in the Sherbourne Arcade in the Lower Precinct as well as by logging on to the official website at www.ccfc.co.uk or by telephoning 0844 412 4634.
