Press Release: Sky Blues go international

A lifelong Coventry City fan has spread his passion for the club across the globe after creating a home for the Sky Blues almost 7,000 miles away, in Asia.
Despite years of travelling the globe with the Army, one thing that has remained constant for former Binley Park School pupil Colin Chamberlain is his passion for his football team.
Born at Walsgrave Hospital, the Sky Blues fanatic is now based in Singapore where he has established the island city-state’s first official Coventry City themed sports bar.
Turnstyles Sports Bar is the latest in a chain of English sports bars opened by the businessman in the country following the launch of his first successful venture - an official Chelsea FC bar - in 2007.
The football club has helped to fit out the bar by sending over a selection of memorabilia as well as issuing the venue with an official supporters bar certificate.
Chamberlain said: “English football is fanatically supported out here and in the local bars and shops you see the full range of English football strips worn by every age and race.
“All the national newspapers cover English football to the same depth and passion as you would find in any city anywhere in the UK.
“We are desperately proud to be the home for city fans in Asia, the bar has some great City memorabilia on the walls, and any fan that comes in wearing their city shirt can be assured of a very warm welcome.”
Despite taking up residence thousands of miles away, the City supporter still has fond memories of trips to Highfield Road as a youngster with his dad.
He said: “The crowds always felt impossibly large and loud, well at least to a five-year-old anyway!
“My father and I sat in the West End and the crowd always stood at every exciting moment, I was not particularly tall - either now or then - so I don’t think I saw a goal until I was 15!”
The bars have proved to be a hit and are tipped for even more success in the future after local publication the Singapore Straits Times listed Turnstyles as one of the top five up and coming companies for 2010.
Nathan Kosky, commercial director for CCFC, said: “We are delighted that Colin has provided us with the opportunity to have an official base for Coventry City fans in Asia.
“He has a fantastic passion for the club and I am sure he will be a brilliant ambassador for us.
“Hopefully this partnership will allow the club to tap into some of the enthusiasm for English football in the country while at the same time providing a welcoming venue for travelling City fans in the form of the official CCFC bar.”
Coventry City fans based outside of the UK can stay up to date with all things Sky Blue by joining the international supporters club - Sky Blues International. For more details visit the fans section of www.ccfc.co.uk.
