Press Release: Prospective MP Chris White signs up for Leamington Wright Hassall Regency Run

Prospective Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White has signed up for another big race this spring.

The Conservative candidate, from Warwick, is gearing up for this year’s General Election – and has decided to take part in April’s Wright Hassall 10km Regency Run too.

Mr White, who missed out on election by just 266 votes in 2005, will be fitting in regular jogs around his busy schedule.

He will join up to 2,000 other local runners for the run’s sixth event.

“This will be my first formal run and it is something I’m really looking forward to,” Mr White said.

“The training starts now and I’m going to try and work regular jogs into my week.

“I think runs this length are a good starting-point for people like myself who have not done them before but want something to aim for.

“On a serious note, health is an area that both I and the Conservative party take seriously and the rising rates of obesity are a problem we want to address, and events like this will help encourage that.

“It’s also an incredible achievement that by the end of this race, the total raised for Leamington and Warwick charities in six years will be £150,000.

“Our area is fortunate to have a lot of people doing great work for charity – and I know the funds from the run provide a little boost for many of them each year, which is excellent news.”

The run, which was recently voted second in the Daily Telegraph’s ‘Top Ten British 10k runs’, takes place on Sunday, April 11.

It starts on Newbold Terrace East and takes runners through locations such as Newbold Comyn, Victoria Park and Jephsons Gardens.

Russell Hall, of race organisers Leamington Round Table, said: “We’re around the 1,500 entry mark now which is up on last year, and 2010 should have the most runners we’ve ever had.

“It’s great that Chris is signing up – it’s a good example to set, particularly because his schedule must be jam-packed at the moment. It shows that people can always find a bit of time to exercise.

“It would be great if representatives of other parties wanted to join in too – it would be interesting to see which party came out on top!”
