Press Release: Paul Fisher announced as speaker for Chamber’s annual conference

A former University of Warwick researcher, who is the latest member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, will be back in the region later this year.

Paul Fisher, who joined the MPC in March, will be speaking at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce's annual conference in Binley on Friday, June 12.

Fisher joined the Bank of England in 1990 after completing an MA in economics at the University of Warwick followed by a PhD in macroeconomic modelling, which is the use of mathematical formulas to view and predict economic trends.

Between 1990 and 1994 he was an economist and manager for the Bank before heading up the division responsible for its domestic and international forecasts from 1995 to 1999. From 1997, he presented data information to the MPC.

In 1999, Fisher became private secretary to Sir Edward George - the former Governor of the Bank of England - before taking up the role as head of the Foreign Exchange Division in 2002.

He is one of several speakers lined up for the event on June 12, including former Conservative MP Michael Portillo.
