Welsh girl Anne Miles is aiming to build a legacy to inspire guests to return to the hotel where she has been appointed general manager. The 33-year-old has taken over at the helm of The Legacy Cardiff International Hotel in Merthyr Road and is keen to put the hotel on the map in the city and the country. Pembrokeshire-born Anne said she loves working in the hotel industry and she wants to create a venue which will encourage guests to make return visits whether for business or leisure. “My key challenge is to raise the hotel’s profile both with guests and within the city of Cardiff,” she said. “There are so many hotels in Cardiff at the moment and everyone is fighting for business. I want to be a hotel which is renowned for having good service and friendly staff so that guests want to return time and time again because they have been made to feel so welcome. “I enjoy working in Cardiff and I love the city. I am looking forward to networking and joining local business groups and again becoming involved with the Cardiff Hoteliers Association.” After leaving school, Anne attended Pembrokeshire College in Haverfordwest where she studied for her BTEC National Diploma in Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management. Anne then continued her training by joining Concord trainee management scheme which sends students out into the workplace studying five different departments in five different hotels across the UK and Channel Islands. In May 2001, she returned to the Welsh capital and has previously worked at the Copthorne Hotel Cardiff, Holiday Inn Newport, Express by Holiday Inn Cardiff Bay which was her first General Management appointment at the age of 28, The Novotel Cardiff and most recently the Park Plaza Hotel as Operations Manager. Anne, who enjoys travelling to foreign countries with her surfer husband, Neil, and travelling the coast of the UK in their VW camper van, added: “It is great that a Welsh person is at the helm of a Welsh hotel. Legacy Hotels’ Chief Executive Andy Townsend is also Welsh. “I have a great deal of passion for Cardiff and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and making a success of the hotel.”
