A high-flying manager is looking forward to taking a leading Plymouth hotel to new heights. Katie Walton, who was in charge of her first hotel within four years of being in the industry, has been appointed general manager of the Legacy Plymouth International Hotel. The 29-year-old is no stranger to the Marsh Mills hotel having enjoyed a relief spell there after Legacy Hotels and Resorts became its new operating and management company in October 2010. Katie said: “I’m delighted to be back in Plymouth. “I really enjoyed being at the hotel for a couple of months towards the end of last year when Legacy took it on. “There is a fantastic, loyal and fun team here who want to progress with Legacy and I’m looking forward to working with them again.” After gaining a first-class degree in leisure and tourism management, she was fast-tracked through a graduate management programme, rising to the position of deputy manager within a year and to manager within 14 months. Katie joined the Legacy group, one of the UK’s top hotel management companies, in September 2008 and has since been general manager of the Legacy Preston International Hotel. In Plymouth, she will be leading a team of around 40 people at the 100-bedroom hotel, which is a popular destination with business and leisure travellers. Katie, who was born in Preston, added: “I am very customer service focused and want to build on the hotel’s foundations, in particular, developing the conference facilities as well as the food and beverage side of the business. “The hotel has great potential and I’m excited to be involved in the opportunities that lie ahead.” Kevin Skeet, operations director of Legacy Hotels and Resorts, said: “I am sure the hotel will go from strength to strength under Katie’s management as she is looking forward to building on its success and to welcoming old and new guests.”
