Weer belangrijke internationale erkenning voor het MKI – Nederlandse non-profit organisatie in de schijnwerper dankzij Amerikaanse subsidie

Medical Knowledge Institute (MKI) als voorbeeld voor Noord-Afrikaanse regio:

 Oostvoorne, 20 mei 2011 - Het werk van het in Nederland gevestigde Medical Knowledge Institute (MKI) en de oprichter – Dr.Harold Robles– krijgt steeds meer internationale erkenning. Dankzij een subsidie van het Amerikaanse Department of State aan Legacy International en de partners Medical Knowledge Institute en Carillion Health Care Systems worden de wijze van werken en de programma’s van het MKI  in zuidelijk Afrika nu niet alleen als voorbeeld, maar ook als ‘leerstof’ gebruikt voor professionele gezondheidswerkers in Noord-Afrika, zoals uit onderstaand (Engelstalig) bericht blijkt.

The Community Health Initiative, a grant of the Department of State to Legacy International with partnerships with Medical Knowledge Institute and Carillion Health Care Systems, is a program to bring young health professionals from Egyptand Moroccoas Fellows to the United Statesand also send a delegation to Egyptand Morocco of American Health Care Professionals.  This program is designed to share the public health education, medical knowledge and systems and other related information that characterizes US Health initiatives and also identify the specific needs and challenges in the respective countries and strive to create a framework for addressing them, beginning with, follow on projects and utilizing the contacts and people that the Fellows have met. 

Dr. Harold Robles; founder and President of MKI came from Hollandto RoanokeVa.to give workshops on the MKI model for South Africaand the history of creating and sustaining an NGO. His personal history, the history of MKI and its outreach, the topic of fundraising, training of trainers, supplemental projects that empower the women of South Africawere the major themes. In addition he shared the MKI approach to educating for the prevention of HIV-Aids as well as his major focus on preventable diseases. Dr. Robles’ workshops were received with tremendous appreciation, excitement and resulted in an agreement to pursue a new relationship for public health initiatives between Legacy International, MKI and the Fellows from Morocco 

As President of Legacy International and also a member of the Advisory Board of MKI, not only am I grateful to Dr.Harold Roblesfor his and MKI’s contribution to this important program but, I am very hopeful that this is only the first step in what Dr. Robles calls, serving the people of Africa from Capetown to Cairo and Casablanca. 

The time is right for Prevention through Education, establishing strong NGOs, promoting citizen participation and capacity building and we intend to seize the moment and create models that are transferable worldwide.

Over het Medical Knowledge Institute, ‘Preventie door Educatie'
Het Medical Knowledge Institute (MKI) is een internationale non-profit gezondheidszorgorganisatie die zich richt op scholing en informatievoorziening vanuit de overtuiging dat gezondheidszorg een mensenrecht is.

Onder het motto ‘Preventie door Educatie' richt het MKI zich vol overtuiging op haar doelstelling de levensomstandigheden van de bevolking in zuidelijk Afrika te verbeteren door gezondheidgerelateerde educatie en informatie te geven aan de lokale bevolking èn hulpverleners. Deze ‘local heroes' brengen die kennis ook weer over op anderen. Hiervoor worden medische experts uit de hele wereld ingezet. De fondsen om dit belangrijke werk te kunnen doen, worden voornamelijk via donaties verkregen. Ook de verkoop van een exclusieve serie sieraden via het door het MKI opgezette project Yoell® draagt bij aan het succes van het MKI. Het Medical Knowledge Institute is gevestigd in Nederland (Oostvoorne) en Zuid-Afrika (Kaapstad) en in 1999 opgericht door Prof. Dr. Harold E. Robles, oprichter en President Emeritus van het Albert Schweitzer Institute for the Humanities.
