Press Release: Major appointment at Birmingham finance firm

A leading national accountancy firm has strengthened its senior management team in Birmingham with the appointment of two new partners.

Chantrey Vellacott DFK, which has offices on the Hagley Road in the city and can trace its roots back to 1788, has recruited Paul Fenner and Craig Povey

The firm is a top 25 accountancy practice and merged with Heathcote & Coleman last autumn to create its 10th office in England.

Now, Fenner and Povey have been brought in to help grow the client base and offer increased services to clients across the Midlands.

Fenner (40) is returning to the fold after originally training with Heathcote & Coleman. He has worked for Deloitte and was a director at RSM Robson Rhodes/Grant Thornton in the city, dealing with large corporates and multi-national listed companies mainly in the property, construction and manufacturing sectors.

He has advised on numerous company transitions up to international Financial Reporting Standards. He has also worked on various corporate transactions, due diligence, working capital reports and business plans to assist both emerging and listed companies seeking funding.

He is a director of the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and recently helped advise it on a £14 million capital project for a successful expansion and creation of its new auditorium.

Povey (43), who lives in Worcestershire, is a specialist in corporate recovery and a licensed insolvency practitioner.

He began his career with KPMG in Birmingham before moving into industry and becoming a financial director of a division of a top 250 plc.

He has also worked as the Chief Reconstruction Officer within an AIM listed business and had a stint with a Japanese investment company specialising in investing in financially distressed SMEs.

He has been brought to the firm to grow its business recovery and turn around offering to companies.

Suk Aulak, partner of Chantrey Vellacott DFK in Birmingham, said: “We have known Paul for many years and with the addition of Paul and Craig we believe they have the requisite skills not only to increase our service offering to clients of all sizes, but also to drive the new-look company forward.

“Being part of a larger network allows us to offer a complete range of services to companies ranging from start-ups through to multinational listed companies.

“The merger of the two firms has gone exceptionally well, but we needed the right partners in place to drive us forward and they are both very valuable additions to the team.”

DFK is a top 10 international network of independent like-minded accountancy practices around the world, with just under 350 offices and 200 member firms.
