Press Release: Enterprising Coventry help beat redundancy blues

A Coventry man who was made redundant could act as an inspiration to others in a similar position after landing a new role.
After seven months out of work Michael Adams, 41, from Keresley, signed up for support with Enterprising Coventry which resulted in him successfully gaining a position at Hillfields-based company The Enriched Life Centre.
Through working closely with an employment advisor at Enterprising Coventry, Michael was provided with a variety of free support and advice including help with job searches, guidance on available benefits and assistance with identifying training opportunities.
The scheme resulted in the former software engineer’s skills being matched to an available position at The Enriched Life Centre where he now works on a collaborative project between the centre and the Better Community Interest Company.
Michael provides IT support for the project, which helps the local community find qualified trades people such as plumbers and electricians, and he is delighted that he signed up for support through Enterprising Coventry.
He said: “I have found signing up with Enterprising Coventry very useful.
“It has provided an opportunity for me to take up a role I would not otherwise have been able to.
“My previous position involved a bit of IT support but for a role like this many firms would require more experience.
“But this placement allows me to develop my skills and receive training while working so when I leave it should provide me with more choices in terms of my future career.
“I would definitely recommend Enterprising Coventry to people who are in a similar position to where I was.”
Lorraine Dolan, an employment advisor at Enterprising Coventry, has worked with Michael since he signed up to the scheme and she will continue to provide him with support over the next six months.
She said: “I am delighted we have been able to help find Michael a position which suits both his and the employers needs so well.
“Michael’s example shows it is possible for people to use and develop existing skills in roles different to those they are familiar with.
“The skills, qualifications and experience gained can also help people to find a job permanently in a new field.”
People currently unemployed or on benefits can access a range of free flexible support to help find work by calling Enterprising Coventry on 08000 305344.
