Press Release: Earth Day Food & Wine Festival Sets Dates For 2011 Celebration |

Earth Day Food & Wine Festival Sets Dates For 2011 Celebration Pomar Junction Vineyards & Winery In Templeton Paso Robles, Calif. — Earth Day has been celebrated for more than four decades, but never with as much gusto as when 1,000 eco-conscious food and wine lovers gather on California’s Central Coast each April to mark the occasion by enjoying some of the best artisan epicurean delights that Mother Earth has to offer. And this is one Festival that lives up to its heritage. Thanks to extensive recycling, on-site composting and careful planning that accounts for the impact of the large crowd, little more than two bags of trash are left when the last guest leaves the premises. No need to worry about turning out the lights, they’ll do that automatically to save energy. Most are solar powered. As the Central Coast Vineyard Team celebrates its fifth Earth Day Festival anniversary, a new venue at Pomar Junction Vineyards & Winery in Templeton will serve as the main event location, in a weekend of spectacular events set for April 15-17, 2011. For complete schedule details, and to plan your trip to the wonder of the Central Coast, visit www.earthdayfoodandwine.com and sign-up for occasional email newsletter alerts as the Earth Day Festival takes shape. The featured event, held on Saturday, April 16, engages more than 200 artisan, award-winning producers of sustainably grown food and wine gather to share delicious, one-of-a-kind dishes sourced from locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, olive oils and, of course, wine. There is live music, a silent auction, cooking demonstrations and the chance to join in and meet the farmers and vintners who make every day Earth Day with a commitment to sustainability. The entertainment stage is solar-powered, and county-wide shuttle service is convenient and reduces the carbon impact of guests attending events. Food is served on, and with, recyclable and compostable plates, bowls, forks and spoons. Recycling containers are located throughout the event sites. A team of volunteers manages a constant effort of both recycling and composting, and guests are asked to drink water from commemorative glasses. Event programs and information guides are produced using only post-consumer recycled materials. The Fifth Annual Earth Day Food & Wine Festival supports research, demonstration and farm worker outreach programs of the Central Coast Vineyard Team, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to sustainable winegrowing since 1994.
