Press Release: Davenport Lodge School celebrates inspection success

A Coventry school is celebrating after receiving a glowing inspection report.

Davenport Lodge Pre-Preparatory school in Earlsdon has been praised for preparing its pupils “extremely well” for the next stage of their education and fostering “great creativity”.

The report, by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, also found that ‘pupils achieve very well in relation to their ability’.

It added: “The results of national tests taken at the age of seven, over the last three years for which comparative data are available, are far above the average of all maintained primary schools in all three areas of reading, writing and mathematics, and have been consistently so throughout that time.

“Pupils achieve very well across a wide range of other activities and this is indicative of the encouragement and support given to them to develop their own individuality and strengths. All pupils are awarded places at the school of their choice.

“The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils is outstanding and a strength of the school.

“The school's aim, of providing a caring and responsible ethos within a mutually supportive atmosphere so that pupils may develop their individual potential values in order to become useful and responsible members of society, is realised.

“Pupils demonstrate courtesy and consideration for others, showing respect for their peers. Personal development continues to be vigorously promoted and is a significant feature of school reports.

“Parents were also very positive about what Davenport Lodge offers their children in speaking to inspectors one said ‘it is like having a personal education’.”

Maureen Martin, Principal at the Davenport Road school, praised her staff, pupils and parents for the success.

“This is reward for all the hard work staff at the school consistently put in,” Mrs Martin said.

“We have always enjoyed a reputation as a ‘top performing school’ and it is good to have this external validation from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

“The school is small and has a close relationship with parents and that helps us to ensure all the children are supported effectively and that we can foster their academic and personal development and cater for their individual needs.

“This follows the marvellous news that three of our former pupils have gained Year 4 scholarships at the Hales site of King Henry VIII Preparatory school. This shows the route to scholarship success starts at Davenport Lodge School.”
