Press Release: Coventry and Warwickshire to thrive despite recession |
|
The leader of British business believes Coventry and Warwickshire is in a good position to survive the harsh economic climate. David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce and a former chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, has said he is confident the region will continue to thrive despite the recession. He said: “History will tell you that Coventry and Warwickshire has been through a number of recessions and has always come out the other side much stronger. “It is an area that has constantly managed to reinvent itself, and being able to adapt is more important now than ever. “The area is very well placed to survive this downturn. It has new industries emerging, is very outward thinking and global-minded which is important at this time.” Frost will return to the city to speak at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s annual conference, which will take place at the Chamber's headquarters, in Binley, on Friday June 12. He added: “I have always had a lot of affection for Coventry and Warwickshire and I am looking forward to returning. “My talk will focus on what we need to do get out of the situation we are in now. “Politicians at all levels need to understand the importance of business - manufacturing and exports need to play a bigger role.” Former Conservative Party minister, Michael Portillo and Paul Fisher, a past University of Warwick researcher who is the latest member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, will also be speaking at the Chamber’s annual conference. Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted to add David Frost to our impressive line-up of speakers at this year’s annual conference. “David is the leader of British commerce, and he has inside knowledge of Coventry and Warwickshire, so we really could not have hoped for a better person to speak at the event. “This conference promises to be one of the most informative and entertaining ever and we are all looking forward to it.” ENDS Media enquiries: Simon Gilbert |
