Business leaders in the region have responded positively to news that Coventry is set to form stronger links with Warwickshire and Solihull. The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the decision of Coventry City Council to break away from Birmingham and the West Midlands city region board project in favour of forming closer ties with Warwickshire and Solihull. Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Coventry’s natural alignment is with this sub-region, and although we recognise Birmingham is the region’s capital, the Chamber feels we have great affinity with Warwickshire, Solihull and indeed other neighbouring non-West Midlands neighbours. “Our patch is a mini England and very different to the urban sprawl of Birmingham which means objectives which suit Birmingham and the Black Country may not necessarily serve our needs as well. “We feel this decision is likely to provide a better solution for businesses in the region and we are excited about developing the links between Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull even further.” ENDS
