A cafe owner is brewing up success after the business she launched in the midst of recession celebrated completing its first full year of trading. While businesses were closing and jobs were being lost across the country Lorraine Baillie, from Bishops Itchington, took the brave decision to start up her own business with the help of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce. A year later and Cannon Cafe, in Cannon Park Shopping Centre, is thriving and continuing to expand its customer base. The cafe recently agreed a deal to supply catering to Hinckley United FC and the business is hopeful of securing similar deals in the future. Baillie, who previously ran The Armillary Coffee Rooms, in Binley Woods, puts the company’s success down to the large emphasis placed on quality customer service and good staff. “We are really happy to have completed our first full year in business and we would not have done it without the hard work of my employees and manager Anne Curley,” she said. “Customer service is so important, having worked for other companies I realised there were areas that could be improved on, and we strive to offer excellent customer service at Cannon Cafe. “Determination and knowing your market is also key to making any business a success.” Cannon Cafe, which employs nine staff at the cafe and an additional seven for outside catering, is working closely with the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce. Jane Hill, of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is fantastic to see a business, not just taking its first few steps, but thriving during these challenging times. “This is a local business which employs local people and generates money for the local economy and the Chamber is delighted to offer support in any way it can. “We are looking forward to working closely with Lorraine and we hope the next 12 months will be even more successful for her than the previous.”
