People are being offered the opportunity to save the environment while sticking to their New Year’s fitness resolutions thanks to an innovative scheme.Coventry Sports Foundation - in connection with the Living Environment Trust - will run a scheme in which they can exchange recyclable materials for a range of rewards including a free month’s Lifestyles health and fitness membership to help people get in shape during the New Year. The scheme, entitled Recycle to Cycle, will reward participants who take 15kg or more of paper, cardboard, glass or tin cans to the Alan Higgs Centre reception in Allard Way between Monday, January 10 and Friday, January 14, 2011.The one-month off-peak pass for the Lifestyles health and fitness facilities can also be used at the Coventry Sports Foundation managed Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley and the AT7 Centre in Bell Green Road as well as at the Alan Higgs Centre but it is limited to non- members.Existing members can take advantage of a free fitness assessment, while others can choose from one of the other rewards on offer which include - two free places on a themed cruise aboard the Coventrian narrow boat, 20 per cent off a private booking aboard the Coventrian or 20 per cent off children’s Green parties.Raffaella Tentindo, trust manager at the Living Environment Trust, said: “Getting fitter and becoming increasingly environmentally friendly are always high on the list of new year resolutions for most people and this scheme ticks both boxes.“By running this scheme early in the New Year we are also able to help people dispose of all that excess packaging and paper from Christmas in the best possible way.” ENDS
