Wet weather failed to dampen the mood as hundreds of people attended a fun-filled summer fete in the city. Coventry Sports Foundation recently hosted its popular annual Summer Fete at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley and more than 300 adults and children turned up for the family event despite the venue suffering rain showers for most of the day. Organised by Coventry Sports Foundation, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Coventry Jubilee, the fete raised over £1,000 for Help for Heroes and the children’s cancer ward at the University Hospital, in Coventry. Mark Cooke, events and hospitality manager for Coventry Sports Foundation, said: “We were delighted that, despite the poor weather, hundreds of people still made the effort to attend the event. “Our visitors really entered into the spirit of it and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, even if the sun did fail to show its face! “We also raised a substantial amount of money for some very worthy causes, which is the most important thing.” Among those in attendance were children’s television stars Fireman Sam, Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy and Kung Fu Panda who dropped in a gave a demonstration of some of his Kung Fu kicks. Visitors were also treated to a wide range of activities on the day including craft shows, bouncy castles and games. Face painting, refreshments, dance shows and a raffle were also held on the day with prizes, including iPod Shuffles, Lifestyles Health and Fitness membership for two, a signed CCFC football and a family carvery meal for four.
