Press Release: Coventry City entice next generation of Sky Blues

A club-supporter partnership to attract the next generation of Coventry City fans is branching out after tremendous success in its first 18 months. The Tickets for Schools Scheme – which offers schoolchildren the chance to experience a Coventry City matchday - has brought more than 16,000 youngsters and parents through the club’s turnstiles since it was launched by the club with the support of lifelong City fan Pat Abel.More than 120 schools have been visited as part of the scheme with around 14,000 children and parents from Coventry buying tickets for City home games in addition to around 1,200 in the Rugby area and almost 1,000 in the Nuneaton and Bedworth region. The scheme is supported by the club and Pat receives valuable assistance from fellow City supporters Cheryl Bates and Elaine Ward and the group now plans to take the scheme into the Leamington and Kenilworth area.Pat said: “I decided to try and do something to encourage the youngsters in the region to support their local football club rather than being lured towards other clubs.“We believe the scheme is unique and it seems to have been very popular with the head teachers, pupils and parents so hopefully we are helping to bring the next generation of Sky Blues through the ranks.”On Monday, March 28 the trio will visit eight schools in the region to entice budding Sky Blues fans to the Ricoh Arena for the game against Millwall on Saturday, April 16.Kenilworth Schools All Saints Church of England Junior, Clinton Primary, Priors Field Primary, St Augustines Primary, St John’s Primary, St Nicholas Church of England Primary and Thorns Community Infant Schools will all be visited on the day in addition to Woodloes School in Warwick and All Saints’ Church of England in Leek Wooton. The aim is for every primary school in the area to be given at least one chance to purchase tickets through this scheme per season.
