Press Release: Coventry Airport and Coventry University join forces

A Coventry University aviation student is flying high after being selected for a new work placement programme at Coventry Airport.
Twenty-year-old Marco Ng, who is in the second year of his aviation management degree, will combine his studies with a 12-month work placement at Coventry Airport.
Patriot Aerospace, the owner of Coventry Airport, has joined forces with Coventry University to provide the opportunity for at least one student each year from the BSc Honours Aviation Management degree programme to undertake a day’s work experience each week.
Marco is the first student to be selected and he will be focussing on business development opportunities.
Marc Watkins, business development manager at Coventry Airport, said the link-up between the two organisations was a natural development.
“We have launched a formal work placement programme with Coventry University because it is important we give proper work experience to the next generation entering the industry,” he said.
“Marco came through an interview selection process and he will be working closely with myself to analyse data, carry out market research and look at market trends.
“I am sure the next 12 months will prove valuable to Marco and ourselves as he finds out more about the industry he wants to specialise in.
“We are now fully open for business and operational again and are concentrating on attracting business jet traffic, freight and potentially future airline operations.”
Jenni Fernando, senior lecturer in aviation management at Coventry University, said the first students from their BSc Aviation Management degree programme will graduate next summer.
“The programme builds on our existing range of aerospace programmes in Aerospace Systems Engineering, Aerospace and Avionics Technology and equips our home and international students with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in the management of airports, airlines and air transport organisations worldwide,” she said.
“We already have strong relationships with airports, airlines and air transport organisations within the region, throughout the UK and overseas which boosts opportunities for graduate employment and we are particularly pleased to be working with Coventry Airport.”
