Construction firms from across the UK travelled to Llanberis to help build a brighter future for those less fortunate.
COINS – a market leader in construction software – sponsors and hosts a Three Peaks Challenge for the industry each year with the aim of raising money for its UK registered charity, the COINS Foundation.
This year, 40 teams took part raising nearly £250,000 that will go towards projects to build schools, hospitals and homes, predominantly in Sub Saharan Africa.
Teams were made up of four or five people with organising and support crews undertaking the driving to help each team scale the heights of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales – all in less than 24 hours.
Over 300 people celebrated the event’s finale under a marquee in the grounds of its North Wales base, the Legacy Royal Victoria Hotel.
Claire Connelly from the COINS Foundation said the event was a huge success.
She said: “This is the ninth year of the event and it enjoys a good reputation within the construction industry as a great team building event and a fantastic fundraising opportunity.
“It is the culmination of effectively a year-long project that involves recruitment, fundraising, sponsorship and preparation.
“We run mountain awareness days through the year to teach people the basics, as obviously it could be quite dangerous for people to attempt to enter this environment without the necessary preparation.
“We ask that firms pledge to raise a minimum of £5,000 and some companies enter two or three teams and really enter into the spirit of things. “It can get quite competitive too but the aim for most is to complete the challenge within 24 hours since that is the target they are set at the start.
“It all came to a close with a hog roast and marquee celebration at the Legacy Royal Victoria Hotel.
“It is the only hotel in the area that is big enough to host us and we have used them every year, in fact I previously used the Royal Victoria while working in a similar capacity for another charity.
“It was a nice way to cap a great weekend and the service is always improving so it will be nice to go back next year for our tenth anniversary.”
The COINS Foundation has raised £1.8million since 2008 and Anne Owen, revenue manager at the Legacy Royal Victoria Hotel, is delighted that the hotel has been given the opportunity to continue to contribute to this great cause.
She said: “We look forward to this event each year because it creates a great atmosphere about the place and it is nice to welcome all the walkers back after a tough weekend.
“As well as this the main thing is of course the fact that it raises a tremendous amount of money for charity and it is a pleasure to play our small part in this.
“It is the tenth anniversary of the event next time so I am sure it will be the biggest yet.”
