Football fans in Coventry and Warwickshire are being given the chance to make a high profile mark on London 2012 by naming the football which will be used during the Olympic football tournament. Coventry and Warwickshire is already set to play a big part in shaping the tournament after it was announced the Ricoh Arena, which will be temporarily renamed the City of Coventry Stadium during London 2012, would host 12 games including the women’s bronze medal match.But now adidas, which will produce the official match ball for London 2012, is offering the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make history by naming the ball for the London 2012 Olympic Games football tournament.Suggested names should combine all the excitement and vibrancy of the Games with everything that’s great about the UK.Will Bastin, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership assistant for the 2012 Games, said: “Competitions like this provide everyone with a chance of being part of London 2012 and Olympic history.“There are already a whole host of ways to engage with London 2012 across Coventry and Warwickshire through the wide range of projects taking place in the region but this is a great chance to have a high profile involvement in the Games at the forefront of the action.“This opportunity is of great significance to the sub-region because not only could people be watching Olympic football in their home city, they could also be watching international stars playing with the ball they named!” Those wishing to purchase tickets for the Olympic football at the City of Coventry Stadium or any other event must first register at www.tickets.london2012.com.The Olympic ticket application process will be open from March 15 for six weeks, enabling people to consider all the options before making their final choices.
