Canadian billiard hot-shot Fraser Durham is to travel halfway round the world again to return to the English Billiards Open Series 2010 Jersey Open. Thirty-one of the world’s best players will be competing in the tournament which gets underway at the First Tower Institute Billiard and Snooker Club in St Helier on Friday. The players along with the competition’s referees will be relaxing at a welcome dinner at The Legacy Hampshire Hotel in Val Plaisant, St Helier, tomorrow (Thursday) where they are staying during the three-day tournament. World number five Roxton Chapman from England, Scottish champion David Sneddon along with fellow countryman Roy Bacon and Northern Ireland’s Norman Whaley will be among the competitors. Guy Heys, Jersey Billiards and Snooker Association official, said this was the fourth year the tournament had been held on the island. “All the top amateurs from across the UK as well as in Europe and further afield have entered the tournament,” he said. “Fraser will travel 4,949 miles from Canada to the island which makes it a round-trip of nearly 10,000 miles. “He reached the quarter-finals of the plate competition last year so I’m sure he will be aiming to go better this year. “We also have Carl Steiner travelling from Vienna in Austria so these players certainly clock up the air miles. “I’m sure it will be another memorable Jersey Open and we are all looking forward to it immensely.” Tim Brooke, general manager of The Legacy Hampshire Hotel, added: “We are delighted to be providing the accommodation for the players and match officials throughout their stay on Jersey and we wish them all the best of luck.”
