A special dance event is to be held in Stratford town centre to raise money for a mental health charity. Three groups of Midlands belly dancers will join together to create a Belly Dance Spectacular, a unique and entertaining show which aims to raise funds for Stratford and District Mencap. Belly Dance troupes from Coventry, Stratford and Buckingham will be performing at Stratford Civic Hall, Rother Street, on Sunday, March 28. The event is suitable for all ages and will feature different group dances and solos in various belly dance styles, all performed in a glittering array of exotic and unusual costumes. Some of the more unusual dances include evocative Pharonic dance, funky Turkish Fusion, Chinese inspired fan dancing and Latin flavoured veil dancing. The show has been organised by Val Rainbow with the help of her students and will consist of an exciting variety of dances created and performed by Egyptian belly dance troupes Qetesh from Coventry, Miramar from Stratford and The Cairo Cats from Buckingham. Val, who teaches the Miramar dance troupe, said: “Belly Dancing is one of the most ancient dances still being performed today and has become one of the most popular ways of keeping fit for ladies all over the country. “It’s a fantastic way to exercise as well as a beautiful and stunning performance art. “The Belly Dance Spectacular is a unique opportunity for everyone to experience the wonderful variety of styles, visually gorgeous costumes, and watch some fantastic dancing from teachers and students alike.” Tickets will be £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for children and are available to purchase from the Civic Hall box office by calling 01789 207100. The show will begin at 2.30pm with doors opening at 1.30pm when refreshments will be available. ENDS
