Press Release: Acutec employee aims to go the distance

A woman who lost her mother to cancer has signed up to help those who supported her family through the most difficult of times.
Carole Doyle’s mother Patricia McAulay lost her battle with ovarian cancer in April this year, just four months after being diagnosed with the disease. During the final few months of Patricia’s life, the family relied heavily on the support of Cancer charity Macmillan.
Now Carole, 47, from Coleshill, wants to show her gratitude by completing the gruelling Birmingham Half Marathon, on October 11, with the aim of raising £1,000 for the charity.
Carole, who works as an office manager for Coleshill-based IT firm Acutec, has been training for the run since July and has plenty of experience having completed the Great North Run and the London Marathon in past.
She said: “I absolutely love running, it has been a really difficult time over the past few months and running really helps to give me the kick up the bum I need sometimes.
“The main reason I am doing this is for the Macmillan nurses because they are there for you when you most need them and they are very, very good at what they do.
“They really are tremendously caring, one of the nurses we had even called during her holiday to give us support. They are just wonderful.”
Chris Roche, managing director of Acutec, said: “It is inspiring to see the phenomenal effort Carole is putting into raising money for an extremely worthwhile cause, which is obviously very close to her heart.
“It has been a difficult time for Carole and all of her colleagues here at Acutec are fully behind her and we wish her all the best for the day.”
